Here are two New York City apartments, both priced between $1 million and $2 million. Which would you rather purchase?
In the world of Manhattan real estate, life begins at $1 million. Sure, you can get a very nice studio or one-bedroom apartment for six figures. But if you’re looking for at least two bedrooms and two baths, in a decent part of town, be prepared to pay the mansion tax (although a 1,200-square-foot apartment is hardly a “mansion”).
In today’s edition of Lawyerly Lairs, we’ll present you with two apartments, both priced between $1 million and $2 million. Then we’ll ask you to vote in a reader poll and say which one you prefer. We’re all about interactivity here at Above the Law.

The Business Case For AI At Your Law Firm
This is a lawyerly lair, but the attorney is actually the less newsworthy member of this power couple. From the New York Observer:
[Christina] Paxson, who was selected as the next president of Brown University this spring, and husband Ari Gabinet have purchased a condo at 88 Greenwich Street, according to city records.
Ms. Paxson and Mr. Gabinet, an attorney at Oppenheimer Funds and the former district administrator of the Philadelphia office of the SEC, apparently grew fond of Manhattan when Ms. Paxon was serving as the dean of Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School. And why not celebrate a dream job with a two-bedroom, two-bath condo?
Actually, the Observer is underselling Gabinet here. He’s not just “an attorney” at Oppenheimer; he’s the general counsel and executive vice president, as noted on his LinkedIn profile. He graduated from U. Penn. for law school and Swarthmore for college (which is where he met Paxson; they were college sweethearts). In addition to his time running the SEC’s Philly office, Gabinet also worked as a partner at Dechert and an associate at Willkie Farr. That’s quite a nice résumé!

And this is quite a nice apartment. The couple purchased the condo — a “sun-flooded” unit on the 13th floor of the Greenwich Club, which boasts such amenities as a billiards lounge, library, fully equipped gym, and “Sky Deck” — for $1.39 million.
(Note also that this is just their second home, a New York pied-a-terre. When up in Providence, they reside in the Brown University president’s mansion — yes, a real mansion — on the appropriately named Power Street.)
