Natalie Portman Will Star In Ruth Bader Ginsburg Biopic

Justice Ginsburg is a woman of many firsts, and now she can add "first female justice to have a biopic starring an Oscar winner" to her résumé.

Just when you thought the nation’s fanaticism over Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had reached its peak, even bigger news has come down the pipeline. In a story first reported by Deadline, it was revealed that a movie based on the Notorious R.B.G.’s life will likely be in production by the end of the year.

Natalie Portman, who won an Academy Award for her work in Black Swan, is set to star as the leading lady in On The Basis Of Sex, with Marielle Heller in negotiations to direct the film. Here’s more info on the Ruth Bader Ginsburg biopic from Deadline:

The script, which follows the travails of Ginsburg as she faced numerous obstacles to her fight for equal rights throughout her career, was written by Daniel Stiepleman and made the 2014 Black List. Robert W. Cort is producing with Ram Bergman exec producing.

Ginsberg [sic] was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1993 by then-President Clinton, becoming only the second female justice (after Sandra Day O’Connor) and the first Jewish female justice. Prior to that, she developed a reputation as a keen advocate for the advancement of women’s rights. Time magazine this year labeled her an “Icon” in its Time 100.

Natalie Portman bears an uncanny resemblance to our beloved RBG in her youth, so props to whoever was in charge of casting for this movie. Justice Ginsburg is a woman of many firsts, and now she can add “first female justice to have a biopic starring an Oscar winner” to her résumé. Congrats, Justice Ginsburg!
