This Is What Happens When The Douchiest Supreme Court Justice Goes To Brunch

Was any jiggery-pokery pudding or pure applesauce served during this brunch?

Hot on the heels of Friday’s historic Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage came one of the most joyous Pride weekends this country has ever seen. What better way to celebrate on a Sunday than with a tasty brunch?

You’d think that one of the high court’s dissenting voices on same-sex marriage would have trouble getting into brunch eateries (in fact, Samuel Alito was turned away from a brunch this past October), but one brunch house welcomed Antonin Scalia, perhaps one of the Supreme Court’s douchiest justices, with arms wide open.

Over at Sam’s Morning Glory Diner, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, two extremely topical menu items were served yesterday, and they sold out faster than any dishes ever sold in the restaurant’s 17-year existence. What on Earth could have made diners so ravenous?

If you arrived at the Morning Glory early enough this weekend, you could’ve eaten Scalia! Here’s more information on these magnificent menu items from Billy Penn:

The “Antonin Scalia is a Douche” special brought eggs scrambled or in a frittata with andouille sausage, tomato, scallions and monterey jack cheese. There was enough sausage to make around 150 of the dish, and it was so popular on Saturday that it sold out by 10 AM on Sunday morning, within two hours of the doors opening.

“The Supreme Court Finally Got It Right” quiches — with tomatoes, prosciutto, spinach and brie or all veg with asparagus, onion and smoked mozz — sold out even more quickly.

Carol Mickey, the owner of the Morning Glory (who happens to be a lawyer specializing in Social Security disability and workers’ comp issues), noted that “[n]ot one single person complained [about the names of the brunch dishes]. The atmosphere in here was really wonderful. People were just loving saying it! ‘I’ll have the Scalia is a Douche, please.’”

We’re glad people got to eat Scalia this weekend, but it’s a shame the Morning Glory didn’t think to add any jiggery-pokery pudding or pure applesauce to its brunch menu.
