Law School’s Ex-CFO Arrested After Spending $50K At Hooters And Other Inappropriate Expenses

Guess what, Barry Law students? Your tuition dollars really were being put to work!

Earlier this week, we broke the news that John LaTorre, the recently fired chief financial officer of Barry University School of Law, had been arrested and charged with grand theft in the second degree, a felony. More information is now available on his case, and we must say, the allegations are pretty damn amazing.

LaTorre stands accused of some serious misuse of his Barry Law corporate credit card to the tune of about $50,000. According to court records, LaTorre allegedly used the card to wine and dine his friends, pay his personal utility bills, and close his bar tabs at Hooters. Guess what, Barry Law students? Your tuition dollars really were being put to work! Your law school’s ex-CFO was busy tipping women in short shorts and tight shirts for his overpriced drinks at your future place of “J.D. Advantage” employment.

The Orlando Sentinel has some additional details on the case against LaTorre:

A witness told authorities that LaTorre used the American Express corporate card “excessively and and made unauthorized transactions” from February 2014 through June 2015, according to the arrest affidavit.

The affidavit also said LaTorre wrote checks to himself. …

After he heard his Miranda rights, LaTorre admitted “he was aware he made personal transactions on the university’s corporate account,” the affidavit said.

We previously mentioned that LaTorre started working at Barry Law in January 2014. This man only waited one month before he allegedly began to bamboozle the law school out of about a year and a half’s worth of its hard-earned student loan dollars. He may bear a striking resemblance to one of Dr. Evil’s distant cousins, but this guy’s got some balls.

Take a look at LaTorre’s criminal case information sheet (click to enlarge):

LaTorre is set to appear before Judge Teresa Pooler on August 6 for his arraignment. Until then, we hope he’ll be able to survive out in the world on his own without his alleged Hooters hook-up charge card, courtesy of Barry University School of Law.
