I’m jumping for joy. I would suggest everyone book their rooms in Atlantic City for Super Bowl week, because we should have sports betting by then.

— New Jersey State Senator Ray Lesniak, responding to the recent Third Circuit decision that vacated an earlier ruling blocking New Jersey’s attempts to legalize sports betting in casinos and racetracks. Not everyone is as optimistic as Senator Lesniak, who obviously has a vested interest in the economic boon sports gambling is expected to provide, as the most recent decision provided only for a rehearing en banc, which will likely push the decision beyond Super Bowl Sunday, and is a necessary but not sufficient step to legalized sports betting in the Garden State.
