I don’t think I’ll have to forfeit any money, I don’t think I’m going to jail. I think that this was a case that, we saw a major insider trading case that was settled the other day by the SEC, no jail time. In fact it was settled on neither admit nor deny wrongdoing. So there are hundreds and hundreds of SEC cases that don’t ever get brought to the criminal division of the Department of Justice. No one gets arrested … this was a case about targeting a guy, an individual, and seeing what they could find. And they threw all the spaghetti at the wall they could, eight charges, they got three to stick, one I don’t think is a legal claim. …

In fact, the SEC told me [I was targeted], which is really remarkable. There is one very senior person at the SEC who has now left, he’s now at a big law firm, and he said to my lawyer that if I kept my mouth shut none of this would have happened. And I think it’s a sad day in this country where just being a flamboyant and personable figure results in saying look at this guy’s records and let’s see what we have on him.

— Former Turing Pharmaceuticals CEO Martin Shkreli, during an exclusive interview with Maria Bartiromo of Fox Business Network’s Mornings with Maria, explaining the reasons why he thinks he was targeted for prosecution after the Daraprim price-hike controversy, and why he thinks he’ll neither be forced to forfeit any money nor serve any prison time, despite the fact that he was convicted on three counts of securities fraud.
