Kaplan Bar Review

Here’s the deal: come out to a bar, play some trivia, win some stuff, hang out with some ATL editors. Sound like a plan? Well, if you’re in Washington, D.C., start marking your calendar.

Many of our D.C.-area law school readers have participated in past Above the Law and Kaplan Bar Review bar trivia nights. For those of you who haven’t, now’s your chance. Come on down and knock those snooty students from your rival schools down a peg. Check out these questions from a prior bar trivia night to see how well you’d have fared. Or just come on down to ask us what it’s like to make fun of people on the Internet for a living. Either way, it’s a good time.

We’ll convene for a night of free food, drinks, and quizzing on Thursday, November 6. Winners get mini iPads for their team (maximum of five per team).

Here are the full details:

Date: Thursday, November 6, 2014
Location: Bier Baron Tavern (1523 22nd St NW)
Doors Open: 6:15 p.m.
Start Time: 7:00 p.m.

Fill out the RSVP form after the jump to attend. We look forward to seeing you!

Thanks again to everyone who came out to the ATL/Kaplan Bar Prep trivia night in New York last week! A number of firms gathered teams of lawyers and summer associates and joined the ATL crew at Connolly’s in Midtown to vie for firm bragging rights, Mini iPads, and our nearly inaugurated traveling trophy: the ATL Trivia Championship Belt.

And of course those who couldn’t succeed at trivia still got free food and some booze, because a trivia night is never a total loss.

If you think the belt looks cool — because it is — convince your firm to join us next time when the winners are forced to defend their title. Stay tuned to ATL for details.

So who won the inaugural challenge?

See you at Bier Baron Tavern on Wednesday, April 2!

Because if the answer is yes, you’re in luck! ATL will be traveling to Beantown for a night of trivia on Thursday, February 20. In a sequel to our successful D.C. event, our friends at Kaplan Bar Review are sponsoring a night of trivia in your neck of the woods. We’ll be heading to a bar (still TBD) and enticing you with some challenging queries for fun and prizes (there are some mini iPads in it for the winners). This is your chance to prove that you and your buddies are smarter than your classmates and, more importantly, all the other law students in Boston…

On Wednesday, the ATL editorial team went down to D.C. to host a night of bar trivia for law students with the help of our friends at Kaplan Bar Review. Well, as noted in the comments, the first order of business for ATL was rolling into town, ending the government shutdown, then hosting bar trivia. How did we end the shutdown? Let’s just say a bunch of attorney House members will not be having their embarrassing stories profiled on ATL in exchange for their cooperation.

In any event, if you didn’t follow along on the live blog, we decided to reproduce the entire round here to give you a chance to play along at home.

Put on your thinking caps!

And if you want to duplicate the entire bar trivia experience, put on your drinking caps….

Your Above the Law editors are making like Mr. Smith and going to Washington. This week we’re hosting not one but two excellent events in our nation’s capital (both free and open to the public):

  • On Wednesday night (tomorrow night), we’re hosting a trivia night for our law student readers. To get the details and to RSVP, please click here (and scroll down to the RSVP form). Please note that trivia participation is not required; you can simply come for the food, drink, and company (of your ATL editors and other D.C.-area law students).
  • On Thursday night, we’re hosting a reception and SCOTUS preview with noted Supreme Court advocate and analyst Tom Goldstein. To get the details and to RSVP, please click here (and scroll down to the RSVP form).

If the government shutdown is still in effect, some of you won’t have to get up early the next day, so it’s a great time for weeknight socializing. We hope to see you at one or both of these events.

(Thanks to our friends at Kaplan Bar Review for sponsoring the trivia night and Access Data for sponsoring the SCOTUS preview.)

Just a friendly reminder that this is happening tomorrow. Manhattan law schools, bars, good times. If you don’t know, you better ask somebody.

I’ve been told that, for liability reasons, I’m not actually allowed to “drive” the party bus, but that’s probably for the best as I’ll be showing up after playing about ten hours straight of Grand Theft Auto V.

Here’s the schedule again…

I posted this on Friday, and then I remembered that law students don’t wake up on Fridays, so I wanted to mention again that the Above the Law Bar Review Crawl (sponsored by Kaplan) now has a sign up sheet, a schedule, and a party bus.

Below you can see our plans, and one person who signs up will be picked at random (on Thursday morning I assume) to join us as we bus around the city. Right now, I’m actually just interested in your music suggestions for the party bus playlist…

This coming Thursday, September 19th, the Above the Law crew will set out to crown the best law school bar in Manhattan. But you knew that already. The first 25 people who show up to hang out with us will have the option of having a free drink sponsored by Kaplan, but you knew that already too.

What you don’t know yet is where we’re going. You don’t know when we’ll be there. And you don’t know how to get on the party bus with us as we travel around to schools, liveblog, and do other party-bus-type things.

Now, after pulling teeth from the people over what bars they drink at, we finally have those details. We’re starting out at 5:30 p.m. around Columbia at The Village Pourhouse.

Check below for the sign-up form to be eligible for some additional ATL swag, Kaplan swag, and a seat on the bus, plus the rest of the schedule….
