We’ve been covering Bajaj for over a year. David Lat has previously expressed his belief that Bajaj was innocent of the charges levied against her, and that belief seemed to be backed up by her not guilty plea.
But given that the legal job market is what it is, I can’t say I’m surprised by anything a young attorney does to make some money these days.
Here’s the deal she got for her guilty plea to one misdemeanor prostitution charge, from the Chicago Sun-Times:
Bajaj — who became something of an Internet sensation after she was initially charged in June 2011 with three counts of prostitution — was sentenced to 24 months of court supervision, fined $2,500 and ordered to complete 50 hours of community-service work and undergo a psychological evaluation.
Prosecutors dropped one felony prostitution charge against her, as well as a second misdemeanor count.

You know, it’s kind of hard to believe people still waste time prosecuting prostitutes. Bajaj admitted to having sex with a man for $100. Do you want to know what most recent law grads would do to make $100 in, what, eight minutes?
Of course, it’s a little hard to understand why Bajaj dragged this out for a year. When the state wants to screw you, you might as well get it done with quickly.
