Perhaps they were just waiting around for Sullivan & Cromwell. Not long after S&C announced bonuses, on Thursday afternoon of last week, Davis Polk announced bonuses, on Friday.
They matched the Cravath scale. Shocking, we know.
What about Morrison & Foerster? They just announced bonuses too, for associates in their New York office….
Legal Is Changing. And NeoSummit Is Where The Future Is Being Built.
Legal and operational leaders are gathering May 6–7 in Fort Lauderdale to confront the questions the industry hasn't answered—with a keynote from Amanda Knox setting the tone.
The announcement came out last week — on Monday, December 3. It’s based roughly on the Cravath scale, but note this language in the memo from New York managing partner Brett Miller:
While the New York discretionary bonus is not contingent on achieving a specific hours target, bonus amounts paid may vary based on differences in levels of contribution, whether as to quality or hours markedly below expectations for the New York market, and an individual bonus may be adjusted downwards or withheld.
So it’s not as rigidly lockstep as the Cravath bonus system; YMMV. Check out the full memo on the next page.
