I am the reason you have a job. You obviously have no clue about what is appropriate. I am going to talk to Steve DiCarmine and insist that you be fired if you ever send me an email or call me again. If he does not, I will seek other opportunities at a firm that gets it.
— A particularly harsh email sent from John Altorelli, a former partner at Dewey & LeBoeuf (and current partner at DLA Piper), to Suzanna Sanchez, a former client relations manager at the firm. Altorelli fired off this email to Sanchez after she informed the rainmaker that he’d missed his September 2009 collections target by $1.6 million. This email was the subject of testimony related to debt collections during day 13 of the D&L criminal trial.
(John Altorelli of spy-shagging fame was later sued in a clawback action by the failed firm’s bankruptcy trustee for about $13 million. He filed for bankruptcy in November 2014, listing assets of $1 million to $10 million, and liabilities of $10 million to $50 million. Flip to the next page to see his complete bankruptcy petition.)
