Administration Of Law School Final Exam Is Compromised

Mistakes were made, but what is this law school going to do about it?

PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW — MEMORANDUM — EXAM ADMINISTRATION ERROR

Dear Criminal Law Students in Professor Caldwell’s class:

First, I want to express regret, both personally and on behalf of the administration, for the error in your exam administration and for the concern that it has caused.

Throughout the last week, I have consulted with other members of the faculty and administration and have decided to offer students one of two options. I have refrained from writing to you earlier as I did not want to interfere with the rest of your exams. I have purposefully waited until after your Property exam to notify you as to the solution, but as you will see from the options below, I did not want to wait until Friday afternoon to announce the resolution.

Here are the options:

1. Elect to use your grade on the Multiple Choice portion as the final grade.

2. Elect to take the two essay questions that had already been prepared by Professor Caldwell for the 2016 exam at one of the following times: Saturday, May 14, at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 16, at 1:00 p.m.

All of the grades will be curved together. If you choose to rely on the Multiple Choice, the grade will essentially count 3 times. If you choose to take the two essays, they will count for 2 of the 3 portions of the exam and the Multiple Choice will count for 1 portion. If you are in the Page dorms and need to stay a few extra days, I have verified with housing that this is possible, just let me know. If you wish to take the new essays, but are unable to make it to one of the three administrations, please contact me directly. However, any exam administrations must be completed by Thursday, May 19. Please respond to me directly with your choice by Thursday, May 12, at 5:00 p.m. If you do not respond by that time, your grade in Criminal Law will be based solely upon your multiple choice exam.

Please let me know if you have questions. Again, I express to you my profound regret for the additional burden this mistake has caused.
