If you’ve been watching the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, you know that Stanford-bound freshman Katie Ledecky hopes to win a total of four gold medals. She already won her first on Saturday night when she broke her own world record in the women’s 400-meter freestyle, swimming it in in 3:56.46, and finishing five seconds ahead of those who won the silver and bronze medals in the event.
Ledecky is a natural-born competitor who is always striving to clinch her next win. Where does she get her urge to win at all costs? It may come from her father, who was once a fierce litigator with ties to one of the biggest law firms in the country.

David Ledecky, a 1986 graduate of Yale Law school, served as an of counsel attorney in the Kirkland & Ellis litigation department for six years before leaving the firm to help his daughter in her competitive swimming career. Her brother, Michael Ledecky, a former swimmer himself, currently serves as a litigation specialist at Bancroft PLLC.
According to the Am Law Daily, a Kirkland spokeswoman had the following message for the Ledecky family: “We are proud to call David a Kirkland alum, and thrilled to see Katie continuing to win gold medals and break world records!”
Congratulations, Katie! We can’t wait to see you win more gold medals in Rio!
