Aside from the summer associate who “jokingly” slapped an associate across the face and the summer associate who allegedly flashed her coworkers at an event, we’ve had a slow summer in terms of summer associate gossip. We suspect that one of the main reasons for that — on top of their fears of indebtedness and unemployment — is that summer associates worked through Summer of $180K, and they’ve been on their very best behavior in the hopes of earning a grandiose paycheck as a first-year associate after graduating from law school.
Money makes the Biglaw world go ’round, and it also makes summer associates act like a bunch of little goody two-shoes. That being the case, you’d think that this summer’s offer rates would be absolutely awesome. But are they? Let’s find out which firms have handed out offers to 100 percent of their summers — information that rising 2Ls will want to know as the on-campus interviewing season starts up.
It seems like many firms haven’t issued offers yet — some wait until the summer program is done, and some even wait until summer associates are back in school. In fact, so far we’ve only heard about 100 percent offer rates at two law firms:

8 Tips For Creating A Comprehensive ‘AI In The Workplace’ Policy
Corporate investment and usage in generative AI technologies continues to accelerate. This article offers eight specific tips to consider when creating an AI usage policy.
- Winston & Strawn (Chicago): “The Chicago office made offers to 100% of the summer associates on the afternoon of July 21 during a group meeting. The summer program ends tomorrow.”
- Hogan Lovells (New York): “The Managing Partner of the New York City office of Hogan Lovells gave offers to everyone at a summer associate lunch and champagne bottles to celebrate. The summers here are really pumped about the firm and about getting offers on July 25, four days before the program was set to end.”
We normally see at least five or six firms from all over the country sending their summers back to school with offers in hand by this point. What could they be waiting for? Is that pie-in-the-sky $180K starting salary a bit too high for firms to willingly make offers to entire summer classes? Yikes. That’s a scary thought for those awaiting offers.
If you have offer rate information to share, please email us (subject line: “Summer Associate Offer Rates”), or text us (646-820-8477). We keep our tipsters anonymous. If and when we receive enough information, we’ll do a follow-up story.
Thanks a bunch, and to those of you who have already landed offers, congratulations!
