Sure, not everyone who graduates from Widener University Delaware Law School is destined for Biglaw. Frankly, that’s a tough beat, and not everyone even wants in. But there are a range of mid-size, small-law, government, and in-house legal jobs that may well be in the future. Or at least some corporate job for which having a JD is an advantage.
Recent law school graduates rarely expect “the mall” to be the home of their new job. But that might be what Delaware Law expects of its grads. A tipster was scrolling through the school’s job boards when they saw… an unusual opportunity.

Yup, that’s a job posting for discount shoe source Payless. And, no, it isn’t in the corporate office or the legal department.

Nope. They just want you to sell shoes. And lift heavy boxes. It’s a job that requires a GED, so why is it on a law school’s job board?
A generous interpretation is that all opportunities are posted without editing, but really, this is insulting. And I can’t imagine why Payless thinks posting to a law school job board will yield the kind of candidates it needs. But this should be a warning to students contemplating taking out student loans and mortgaging their future for an opportunity to get a JD. You could still wind up like Al Bundy, selling shoes to make ends meet.
