As noted by Bob Ambrogi this week, inaugural ATL alt.legal Innovation Award overall winner Casetext closed on a $12 million Series B funding round, one of the largest investments in a legal startup ever. The Casetext financing is but the latest indication of the continuing serious momentum in the legal tech startup world.
According to CB Insights data, legal industry startups received a record number of deals in 2016, with $155 million invested across 67 deals, a 12% increase over 2015. (However, the total dollar amount of funding declined by 46%.) The 27 deals in Q4 ’16 were the most ever for a quarter:
