Conversation With VortexLegal Founder Jonathan Broder

How is VortexLegal building a business around hearing attendance? Follow along with this conversation to find out.

I’ll give VortexLegal Jonathan Broder this: he knows how to reach out to journalists and tech bloggers. Recently, I got the following email from him:

Hey Zach,

I started VortexLegal, we provide contract attorneys or per diem who attend hearings for other lawyers, law firms and corporate legal departments. Insurance carriers are our biggest and newest clients and are adopting us quickly. We work with numerous carrier’s staff counsel offices.

Some big companies just signed up with us and instructed their law firms to start using us.  If you agree that this is an interesting and noteworthy trend, let me know and I can fill you in with more.

(sorry it was a few more than 3 sentences)

Thanks,

Jonathan Broder

I’ve actually posted here on ATL about how innovative legal businesses should get in touch with me, and clearly Jonathan read my post. His description was short, sweet, and to the point.

Then something else occurred to me: I spend so much time on the phone with startups, many of whom I then ask to join me for a live ReplyAll conversation here on ATL. Not only does this double-conversation method take a lot of extra time, but I’ve noticed that the conversation I have with the entrepreneur on the phone is sometimes better than the published conversation, and there’s a lot of repeat. So, I wanted to run a test and see what it would be like if I just skipped right to the ReplyAll conversation. I think the time saved would allow me to cover more new companies and the conversations would be even more real and compelling. So I responded:

Why doesn’t everyone get in touch with me like this? Simple, easy and quick without references to some revolutionary feature update. I’m always interested in ALSP — I realize your folks are lawyers but this still feels “alternative.”

Listen, I would like to hear more, but if you’re up for it (and since your opening email was so tight) I’d like you to tell me more by email with the understanding that we’ll publish this exchange as a ReplyAll convo on Above the Law including your opening reach out. Will be less of an interview and more of a dialogue — cool?

If so, I’ve got a bunch of questions…
