Judge Roy Moore Allegedly Had Sexual Encounter With Underage Girl When He Was A District Attorney

Not that this will dissuade people in Alabama from voting for him.

Judge Roy Moore, currently running to be God’s voice in the United States Senate, has been accused of having a “sexual encounter” with a 14-year-old girl when he was a 32-year-old assistant District attorney in 1979. The Washington Post reports that three other women allege that Moore “pursued” them when they were between 16 and 18 and Moore was in his 30s.

Alone with [Leigh Corfman, 14 at the time of the allegations], Moore chatted with her and asked for her phone number, she says. Days later, she says, he picked her up around the corner from her house in Gadsden, drove her about 30 minutes to his home in the woods, told her how pretty she was and kissed her. On a second visit, she says, he took off her shirt and pants and removed his clothes. He touched her over her bra and underpants, she says, and guided her hand to touch him over his underwear.

“I wanted it over with — I wanted out,” she remembers thinking. “Please just get this over with. Whatever this is, just get it over.” Corfman says she asked Moore to take her home, and he did.

This is an officer of the court creating private time with a 14-year-old girl at court and then later, allegedly, groping her. This is disgusting.

Moore, it appears, tried to get “ahead” of the story by going to Breitbart News. He denies the allegations there and Breitbart does the work of suggesting this is all some kind of fake news plot against Moore lead by Jeff Bezos’s Washington Post.

I imagine that most Breitbart readers will stop there… alleged pedophilia is something they’re fundamentally cool with so long as it’s done in Jesus’ name. And I imagine most non-Breitbart readers won’t drill down in the story because, why would you?

But if you keep going the Alt-Right defense of Moore becomes stranger and more gross.

Again, the Post interviewed four women who claimed that Moore engaged in inappropriate behavior. Moore’s denial is limited to the “allegations” and doesn’t get into the specificity of the things the various women talk about in the Post’s story. They’re focused on the lead woman who is the only one alleging a “sexual” encounter.

But the other three women still alleged some wildly inappropriate behavior, and the way Breitbart characterizes those allegations is… weird:

One of the women was 18 when she claimed that she went on several dates with Moore. The charge in the claim is that when they went to a local pizzeria Moore ordered wine even though the woman was one year younger than the legal drinking age in Alabama. The woman is not cited making any claims of inappropriate sexual conduct.

Another woman says that when she was 17 and Moore was 34 they openly dated each other in the Spring of 1981. This woman also is not cited making any claims of inappropriate sexual conduct. In fact, she characterized Moore as being romantic, reading poetry to her and playing the guitar. The woman is cited saying that physical contact only involved kissing and did not progress any further.

A third woman claims that when she was working at a local mall as a Santa’s helper and she was 14 she was approached by Moore. She claims that Moore asked her to go on dates when she was 16 but that her mother would not allow it.

So Moore was a 30-something ADA and Breitbart seems to be saying:

* Having pizza and wine dates with an 18-year-olds when you are a grown-ass man is fine.
* Openly dating a 17-year-old when you are 34 is fine.
* Propositioning a 14-YEAR-OLD AT THE MALL IS FINE, and anyway her mom said ‘no’ because she wasn’t 16 yet.

Breitbart also, helpfully, reminds us that the age of consent in Alabama is 16.

I’d like to helpfully remind you that Moore was a goddman ADA at the time of these allegations. In what UNIVERSE is it okay for a STATE OFFICIAL to be propositioning a little girl pretending to be one of SANTA’S HELPERS at the mall? JESUS CHRIST! WHO DOES THAT?

When reached for comment, Jesus said: “It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.”

Back to the Post:

Moore was 30 and single when he joined the district attorney’s office, his first government job after attending the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, serving in Vietnam, graduating from law school and working briefly as a lawyer in private practice in Gadsden, the county seat.

By his account, chronicled in his book “So Help Me God,” Moore spent his time as a prosecutor convicting “murderers, rapists, thieves and drug pushers.” He writes that it was “around this time that I fashioned a plaque of The Ten Commandments on two redwood tablets.”

If only God had room for an 11th Commandment.
