Book Of Business: Winston & Strawn's Impressive Expansion In Energy Law

Check out the latest installment of Above the Law's new, Biglaw-focused podcast.

In case you missed our earlier announcement, Above the Law has launched a new, Biglaw-focused podcast. It’s called Book of Business, brought to you by ATL and our friends at Kinney Recruiting.

Book of Business is hosted by myself and veteran legal recruiter Robert Kinney, Founder and President of Kinney Recruiting (sponsor of the podcast). In each episode, Robert and I do three things. First, we analyze a recent notable lateral move or collection of moves, explaining the significance for the Biglaw world. Second, we take an in-depth look at a specific legal market, discussing what it’s like to practice in that market, including its pros and cons. Finally, we offer career advice for the audience of Book of Business — current and aspiring partners at leading law firms.

In our latest episode, our second, we analyze Winston & Strawn’s aggressive (and impressive) expansion in energy law; conduct a market snapshot for Northern California, both San Francisco and Silicon Valley; and offer advice to lawyers on saying no gracefully and keeping their options open.

In case you missed our first episode, we discussed lateral moves related to the recent merger between Andrews Kurth and Hunton & Williams; conducted a market snapshot of New York, the biggest Biglaw market; and offered advice to lawyers on the important topic of negotiating lateral offers.
