Welcome back to Foreseeable Harm, a series where we take a look at some of the most appalling law school horror stories, straight from the law school trenches. These are real emails and messages we’ve received from real readers. Take a look at today’s tale of law school woe:
I went with my law school down to Tulane for a moot court competition. Happened to fall during Mardi Gras season. First round was at the law school and was not sure how we did. They announced the top 16 teams that night at a reception. Before they announced the teams that advanced, we had a few drinks . . . after they announced that we advanced, we had a lot more drinks. Ended up down in the Quarter that night and I have vague memories. One such memory started with the word “Hand” and ended with the word “Grenade.”
Woke up early the next morning in a fog. Had no idea where I was and no idea what I had to do in about an hour. Somehow made my way to the round of 16 which was held at the local courthouse. We were waiting for our round to start and it was torture. I was not sure if I was going to make it. To make matters worse, the timekeeper for the round was running late. I had to take matters into my own hands and excused myself to use the restroom. I proceeded to vomit violently.
Made my way back to the courtroom, just in time for my argument. We won the round to advance to the elite 8. Tried to eat at lunch and could not do it. Passed out for a few minutes and then went back to court. Our run ended there, but an all-expense paid trip to Mardi Gras with an elite 8 finish was definitely an experience.
