Biglaw Partner Arrested After Deadly Hit-And-Run Crash

A 16-year-old girl died in the incident.

A Dentons partner is facing charges for drunk driving that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old girl. Shane Stevenson, a corporate partner in the Edmonton office of Dentons Canada, had a blood-alcohol level over .08 at the time of his arrest.

According to police, Chloe Wiwchar, 16, was crossing the street at the crosswalk on Kingsway Avenue — a main Edmonton road — around 11 p.m. when she was struck by a pickup truck which immediately fled the scene. An off-duty officer witnessed the crash, and provided assistance to Wiwchar before following the pickup truck while providing information to police dispatch. Stevenson was arrested shortly after.

Wiwchar was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A spokesperson for Dentons confirmed Stevenson is a partner at Dentons, but that he’s been suspended pending an investigation:

“At this time, we can confirm that Shane Stevenson, a Dentons Canada partner in the Edmonton office, has been suspended from the firm pending further investigation,” she said.

Stevenson’s bio has also been pulled from the firm’s website.

According to Law.com, Stevenson works in the corporate and commercial group and serves as the Edmonton team lead for the firm’s international natural resources and infrastructure practice. He’s also on the board of directors for movie distributor LevelFilm.
