White House Preparing To Publicly Tar Rod Rosenstein

Get ready for heads to roll next week.

Welp. Here we go.

CNN is reporting that the White House has begun the process of drafting talking points trashing Deputy Attorney General to distribute to surrogates. While CNN claims these talking points are in draft form now, we should expect to hear a lot about Rod Rosenstein’s “bias” and “ineptitude” on cable news over the weekend.

It’s an almost laughably clumsy prelude to firing Rosenstein and bringing in someone else to clip Mueller’s wings without actually having to fire Mueller directly. To that end, Trump tweeted his continued support of the Mueller investigation earlier today.

It represented a sharp break from his public criticism over the last few days, but it makes perfect sense as the opening act in a play that casts Trump as the reluctant axeman who finally responds to the “popular will” of talking heads across the networks calling upon him to fire Rosenstein.

With his own talking points.

Earlier, Elie Mystal wrote that we’re reaching a point where simple firings can’t put an end to the investigations into Trump. Looks like we’ll get a test of that theory next week unless Ty Cobb’s cooler head prevails.

On the other hand, considering the career life expectancy of people after Trump offers a public vote of confidence, Ty Cobb may not be long for this drama either.
