Chicago! Time To Get Your Raises!

With the second Chicago-headquartered firm to drop, we can expect the rest of the city to shrug its broad shoulders and match soon.

I don’t know why you’re releasing a bonus announcement after 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Don’t you want people to know that your firm is not a cheapskate? Aren’t you proud? Just because Trump has decided that Friday evening is a totally acceptable time to release news, doesn’t mean you have to.

Oh, wait, as of this writing, it’s not after 5:00 p.m. in Chicago. Okay, that makes slightly more sense now.

Sidley Austin is here, folks. Kirkland & Ellis kicked off raises for firms headquartered in Chicago, yesterday. But Kirkland can sometimes be a special case so you couldn’t be sure that the rest of Chicago would follow.

Sidley Austin is not a special case. It’s just a giant firm with a couple of thousands lawyers that is a market indicator by sheer force of size. If Sidley is doing it, all the other Biglaw firms in Chicago pretty much have to.

Sidley matched the Cravath scale, and the Simpson special bonuses.

I’m going to put the full memo on the next page, because Sidley is eating into my weekend and it’s pissing me the hell off.
