Jeff Sessions Trots Out 'Lock Her Up' One More Time To Nobody's Delight

Dumb kids make dumb man say dumb thing.

Earlier today, United States Attorney General Jeff Sessions decided to break out in a rousing rendition of “Lock Her Up!” with a bunch of high school kids. In fairness to Sessions, he only said, “Lock Her Up!” once before Dummy the House Elf realized that he was, in fact, the nation’s top law enforcement officer publicly threatening to prosecute a former government official and that this probably violated all sorts of ethical norms or laws or whatever it is he’s supposedly in charge of and descended into nervous laughter and tried rapidly to change the conversation.

“High school leadership summit” isn’t really a fair description of the event. A better description is “Turning Point USA put together a gathering of the most trollish, right-wing high schoolers in the country” — the sort of people looking for great judicial clerkships down the road — and those slobbering Tiki-Torch-Tots decided to get their kicks by showing the Deliverance extra that currently serves as Attorney General just how brash they can be! And he, of course, giggled mightily because the conservative movement absolutely loves it when the youths get loud, obnoxious, and menacing to own the libs.

The latest episode of “Jeff Sessions is a moron” has mostly been met by eye rolls from the left of the spectrum, people so beaten down by watching this racist cartoon split up families and undermine actual law enforcement because they aren’t racist enough.

But the nervous laughter Sessions let out may mask a bigger worry.

Right-wing social media response to this clip has, so far, been even more negative than the liberal take. By and large, it’s amounted to Trumpists starting to remember that chant and wonder why they’ve not seen Hillary frogmarched past the cameras and they’ve got to wonder if it’s time to jettison this guy and get someone in there who will take “ServerGate” seriously. “Look at Sessions laughing when he’s not done anything,” they’re saying. And if they repeat it on social media enough Trump might be listening!

Oh, and firing Sessions would open the door to killing the Russia investigation and related obstruction of justice probe. But those would just be totally unrelated side effects!

Could this become the flimsy excuse this administration needs to show Sessions the door? Perhaps this won’t get the 24/7 media play it would under a normal administration and Trump won’t have to watch a panel of “experts” on Fox & Friends musing about the absence of a Clinton investigation. But if this does take on a life of its own in the right-wing media, Sessions may have put another target on his back for this administration’s easy knife insertion. And all because a bunch of high school twerps wanted to drown him in adulation.

Live by the mob, die by the mob.
