Troubled Law School Won’t Be Holding Classes This Fall

The school isn't closing its doors completely, but they won't open this fall.

UPDATE AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR FALL 2018

ARIZONA SUMMIT LAW SCHOOL-ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY TEACH-OUT PLAN

  • ASLS and ASU have been diligently and cooperatively working on a Teach-Out Agreement and Plan, which will be submitted to the ABA for approval.
  • ASLS and ASU are developing a contingency plan for the fall term 2018 to assist some ASLS students in completing classes toward the JD degree.
  • ASU is currently evaluating ASLS student records for acceptance of students as visitors.
  • There are no guarantees that all ASLS students will be accepted as visitors.
  • ASLS will not offer any classes during the fall term 2018.
  • Those ASLS students selected by ASU may visit and take classes at ASU for the fall term 2018, while ASLS and ASU continue to finalize the Teach-Out Agreement and Teach-Out Plan.
  • 1L courses are not available to ASLS students.
  • ASU’s Evidence sections are full and likely will not be available until the Spring. 
  • All credits taken at ASU as a visitor will transfer back to ASLS and your degree will be issued by ASLS.
  • ASLS is currently auditing all ASLS students to determine your academic status.
  • ASU may begin contacting students directly as early as Friday morning to discuss enrollment in their program as a visitor.  If you have not signed a FERPA release (attached to this email), so that we can send your records to ASU, please do so immediately.
  • Tuition will be based on the ASU tuition numbers.
  • As ASLS will not be offering classes in the fall, ASLS will not offer any scholarships going forward to any ASLS students.
  • The ASLS Library is not available; however, the ASU law library is open and available to the public.

WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO IMMEDIATELY (i.e. Friday 8/10)

  • Please contact Stacey Pynn AND Jocelyn Turner, by email, to advise ASLS of whether you intend to take classes as a visitor at ASU or whether you have transferred or will be visiting at another law school.  This information is vital so that we can account for each remaining student enrolled in ASLS.
  • ASU’s classes start on August 15, 2018.  We are working with ASU to facilitate registration so that you can obtain syllabi and order your books for the classes you will enroll in.
  • If you plan to visit at ASU in the fall, you will need to make application by August 10, 2018. 
  • If you have been contacted by the ASU Admissions Department, please respond to them immediately.
  • If you have transferred to another law school, or simply intend to disenroll, please complete the attached Withdrawal Form so that we can remove your name from the active list of students. 
  • If you have not made plans for the fall semester, you will need to speak to a Summit representative to get guidance immediately.
