Officer Who Shot Man In His Own Home, Finally Fired

Amber Guyger has finally been fired, though there's no word on whether she was terminated while sitting in her own home.

I imagine that Amber Guyger is on a Trump shortlist somewhere to replace Jeff Sessions as attorney general, or maybe to replace Brett Kavanaugh as a nominee to the Supreme Court.

But for now, she’s out of a job. The Dallas Morning News reports:

Dallas Officer Amber Guyger, who is facing a manslaughter charge after fatally shooting 26-year-old Botham Jean in his Cedars apartment Sept. 6, was fired Monday.

Police said in a news release that she was fired after an internal investigation found she had engaged in “adverse conduct” when she was charged with manslaughter.

That certainly took them long enough.

Amber Guyger gunned down Botham Jean in his own home. She claims she thought she was walking into her own apartment, saw an “intruder,” and shot. There are conflicting reports about whether the door to NOT GUYGER’S APARTMENT was ajar or if she forced it open. There are disagreements about whether Guyger should have been charged with manslaughter, as she has been, or murder, as she might still be. There are various social media theories floating around out there about whether Guyger and Jean had a prior relationship.

But what should have been clear, since at least September 6th when Guyger killed Jean, is that Guyger should no longer be a cop. Cops cannot go into other people’s homes and shoot them to death for being there.
