Appealing Bonuses For This Firm

Keeping pace in the New York market.

Because Mayer Brown prides itself on its appellate practice… get it?

Look, coming up with new titles for all of these announcements are hard. In a way, it reflects the ennui of the associate classes out there who seem to be so uninspired to learn that they’ll be getting the same bonus scale again. Yet the show must go on so we’re out here trying to come up with some kind of clever packaging to put around the fact that Biglaw is marching in lockstep once again.

Mayer Brown, a firm that just announced its interest in expanding its New York practice, was not going to offer any daylight between itself and the competition when it comes to recruitment and retention. The firm is offering a full Cravath match in New York, via a memo sent around this week.

For those who haven’t fully memorized this scale:

2018 $15K prorated
2017 $15K
2016 $25K
2015 $50K
2014 $65K
2013 $80K
2012 $90K
2011 and earlier $100K

Good news for the Mayer Brown crew!

UPDATE: Though we’ve heard things aren’t all rosy over at Mayer Brown. Apparently, this bonus announcement only applied to the NY office and the rest of the firm is wondering what’s up.
