Bonus Matching In New York And Silicon Valley!

Perhaps people aren't excited enough about these bonuses.

Last week, Kramer Levin joined the ranks of the Cravath matching firms with a full match for all of its U.S.-based associates in its New York and Silicon Valley offices. We’re sorry we didn’t get this news out to the masses sooner, but we only learned ourselves with a tipster noticing that we had never received word before now.

Is it that these amounts seem so ho-hum that no one is truly jazzed to get them? After the adrenaline rush of the summer salary bump, maybe these amounts feel too de rigueur to associates. Be careful about taking these numbers for granted. Over the life of Above the Law, bonuses have been both much higher and much lower, so don’t fool yourselves into thinking this is a schedule everyone should just expect.

Maybe some good old-fashioned Biglaw passive aggression is what we need around here to remind everyone to let us know the moment their firms announce bonuses. So here we go: It’s okay tipsters, we’re not mad… we’re just disappointed.

In any event, Kramer Levin joins the ranks of firms handing out:

2018 $15K prorated
2017 $15K
2016 $25K
2015 $50K
2014 $65K
2013 $80K
2012 $90K
2011 and earlier $100K

While Kramer Levin did get its announcement out in a timely manner, paying out in a timely manner is a different story altogether. The firm’s memo notes that bonuses are “expected” — whatever that means — to be paid on February 15, 2019. That’s a mighty fine set of golden handcuffs you folks got there!
