Individual Bonus Memos At This Firm

Things are going well at this firm... we guess.

We love a good lockstep bonus memo. It sends a message of collegiality in an increasingly atomized world. But sometimes we can’t all get what we want. And that’s where Perkins Coie comes in.

After our most recent shame list, we’ve heard that Perkins Coie has sent around individualized memos to all associates and counsels over the last two days. We don’t have enough data points to opine on the quality of the bonuses, but the fact that people aren’t bombarding our inbox, we feel comfortable assuming they met the market because anything else in either direction would kick up a hornet’s nest.

UPDATE: It sounds like things may not be going well with these bonuses. Tipsters report lower bonuses than in past years and hearing from management that the reason is “overall compensation is up.” If true, that means Perkins Coie is using the summer’s raises to justify shorting associates on bonuses, which is the opposite of paying market.

So if you have more insight, let us know. Otherwise, congrats.

Please help us help you when it comes to bonus news at other firms. As soon as your firm’s bonus memo comes out, please email it to us (subject line: “[Firm Name] Bonus”) or text us (646-820-8477).
