From Biglaw To Solo Practitioner To Author: Balancing A Fulfilling Legal Career With The Rest Of Your Life

A true story about being a lawyer and a children's book author.

At some point in your Biglaw career — buried between the deadlines, long hours and stress — you’ve probably fantasized about chucking it all for your dream job. While Jill Diamond’s career hasn’t featured a ‘take this job and shove it’ moment, she has managed to secure herself a fulfilling legal practice AND a successful creative outlet as a children’s book author. A balancing act Cirque du Soleil would be proud of.

In the latest episode of the Jabot podcast I chat with Jill about all the twists and turns her career has taken from her decision to go to law school, to Biglaw, to working as an attorney for InCloudCounsel, to how she landed her first book deal. Jill also gamely answers pressing questions about her first book, Lou Lou and Pea and the Mural Mystery, from a very special guest, my niece Ruby Elizabeth, age 8.

The Jabot podcast is an offshoot of the Above the Law brand focused on the challenges women, people of color, LGBTQIA, and other diverse populations face in the legal industry. Our name comes from none other than the Notorious Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the jabot (decorative collar) she wears when delivering dissents from the bench. It’s a reminder that even when we aren’t winning, we’re still a powerful force to be reckoned with.

Happy listening!
