Guess Which Biglaw Firm Won The Former Congressman Lottery

Welcome to Biglaw.

Bill Shuster and Joe Crowley

Former House of Representative members Joseph Crowley (D-New York) and Bill Shuster (R-Pennsylvania) are Biglaw bound. The pair have decided to team up for their next career move, and this morning it was announced they’d be heading to Squire Patton Boggs, to the global public policy practice.

Crowley famously lost his primary race to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after 20 years of representing New York’s 14th District. Shuster retired from his Pennsylvania seat in 2018. Their decision to move to the private sector together fueled speculation about where they’d wind up. It looks like the bipartisan lobbying practice at Squire Patton Boggs — which boasts an impressive roster of former politicians including House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Mississippi), Senator John Breaux (D-Louisiana), and Democratic former Secretary of Transportation Rodney Slater — did the trick for the pair.

As reported by Law.com, Crowley and Shuster made appropriate statements about looking forward to the next stage of their careers at Squire Patton Boggs:

“We were honored to hear from many of the great firms in town since leaving Congress, and chose what we think is the very best place to continue our careers,” Crowley said in a statement. “Serving in Congress was an honor of a lifetime and I look forward to working on many of the same issues in this new role.”

…..

“Joining Squire Patton Boggs gives Joe and me an opportunity to work with the best in the business on tackling some of our nation’s most pressing needs, including prioritizing an infrastructure agenda,” Shuster said in a statement.

The firm’s public policy practice is led by Lott and Breaux, who issued a joint statement on the new hires, calling the pickup a “blockbuster addition” for Squire Patton Boggs.
