Addressing The Elephant In The Room: Biglaw's Problem With Diversity

Can anything be done to improve diversity?

Given that The Jabot podcast is designed to address issues that diverse people face in the legal industry, it’s a little surprising that it took until episode 17 until we on point dealt with Biglaw’s problem with diversity. In the latest episode, I talk with Merle Vaughn, Senior Lateral Partner Recruiter & Law Firm Diversity Practice Leader at Major, Lindsey & Africa.

Merle and I discuss what concrete steps law firms can take to move the diversity needle, the problem with income partners, the flawed assumptions about the diversity pipeline, and more.

The Jabot podcast is an offshoot of the Above the Law brand focused on the challenges women, people of color, LGBTQIA, and other diverse populations face in the legal industry. Our name comes from none other than the Notorious Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the jabot (decorative collar) she wears when delivering dissents from the bench. It’s a reminder that even when we aren’t winning, we’re still a powerful force to be reckoned with.

Happy listening!
