Bill Barr Embarrasses Himself, His Office, And America, Again

We don’t have an Attorney General. We haven’t since Donald Trump took office. Jeff Sessions only defended that laws of the United States that were passed before the start of the Civil War. Matt Whitaker, like, what was that even? Do you even remember that a toilet salesman masqueraded as the U.S. Attorney General for months? And now we have William Barr, who has decided that Donald Trump is his client and the American people are opposing counsel.

Being “outraged” by their actions requires you to compare what they do to what they’re supposed to do. But once you accept or resign yourself to the premise that these people have no intention of doing the right thing, it’s hard to even get mad at them. Do you get “mad” when a dog licks his own ass? Are you “outraged” when a pigeon poops on your car? Bill Barr is a terrible attorney general who uses the levers of justice for the sole purpose of helping Donald Trump. In related news, tigers make bad pets because they can eat you.

Whatever, from the New York Times:

Attorney General William P. Barr has assigned the top federal prosecutor in Connecticut to examine the origins of the Russia investigation, according to two people familiar with the matter, a move that President Trump has long called for but that could anger law enforcement officials who insist that scrutiny of the Trump campaign was lawful.

Even Confederate Attorney General Jeff Sessions resisted Trump’s asinine calls to investigate law enforcement for the crime of doing their job. Barr lacks the ethical compunctions of Sessions on this issue, which is an amazing statement considered that Sessions would have been willing to dress up as Pennywise if he thought he could frighten more brown children with the costume.

Trump wants to make the investigation into his contacts with Russia seem like the real crime, as opposed to his contacts with Russia. Barr is on the same page. I don’t care if Barr got there through trying to placate his master, or if he honestly believes it. It doesn’t matter why Barr has agreed to do this, only that he’s doing it and he’s terrible because he’s doing it.

But, terrible people run the government and nobody is willing to do what is necessary to remove them from office so… I guess this cat will just keep scratching the couch cushions until feathers come out.
