Prestigious Biglaw Firm Enacts Global Work-From-Home Policy Over Coronavirus Concerns

When will other firms offer work-from-home solutions so employees can remain safe?

WEIL GOTSHAL — CORONAVIRUS WORK FROM HOME POLICY

Update to the Coronavirus Policy (3.11.2020)
In our continuing effort to minimize any potential impact of Coronavirus on our community, we are seeking ways to reduce the number of people spending time together in close contact. One way of doing so is to reduce the number of days people come into the office.  To that end, we are introducing a work from home policy (“WFH”) as defined below.
Please note that we are not aware of any Weil personnel with a known or suspected case of Coronavirus and Weil is open for business.  Rather, this policy is precautionary and is consistent with advice from government officials.  It is also in furtherance of our prior policies/efforts relating to social distancing.  The WFH policy will remain in effect until further notice.  We will assess the WFH policy after the first two weeks (if not sooner) to see if any changes are appropriate.
Work from Home:  Group A & Group B
Effective, Monday, March 16th, the Firm will assign all attorneys and administrative personnel into two groups:  Group A and Group B.  These groups will alternate working from home on a weekly basis (i.e., Group A will work from home the week of March 16th, Group B will work from home the week of March 23rd, etc.).  This is mandatory and may be adjusted as required outside the United States.  By Friday, March 13th, assigning partners and/or practice group leaders (for attorneys) and managers/supervisors (for administrative personnel) will inform members of their teams of their respective group assignment.
Any administrative staff member who believes that they cannot perform some or all of their regular job functions from home should consult with their immediate supervisor, who will be managing work flow and may be able to provide alternative projects.
