As we continue moving forward together, I am pleased to announce that the Executive Committee has made the decision to formally recognize Juneteenth as an annual paid firm holiday.
Juneteeth began as a celebration in Texas to commemorate the belated announcement of the Emancipation Proclamation two and a half years later on June 19, 1865. Today, Juneteenth is recognized by 47 of 50 of the United States as a day to celebrate the end of US slavery. While July 4 stands as our national Independence Day, for many African Americans, Juneteenth has even greater significance as a symbol of true independence and freedom.
In recognition of this historical moment and our commitment to inclusion and diversity, this Friday June 19 and every June 19 thereafter will be a paid holiday for all firm employees. I encourage you all to use this time to rest and reflect on the work we have been doing as a firm and as individuals over these last weeks, and to remember the indomitable human spirit that has led us to this moment.
