PAUL HASTINGS — MEMO — U.S. OFFICE RETURN
This month marked the 70th anniversary of the founding of Paul Hastings, which is a proud milestone in our Firm’s history. Over the years, the Firm has adapted to massive changes in the economy and the legal marketplace and has always come out stronger. But that success has not been by happenstance. It has stemmed from one source – our people – who have consistently demonstrated unwavering commitment to each other and to our clients, while exhibiting excellence at every turn. This excellence was uniquely evidenced over the course of the last 20 months, where we were steadfast in navigating unprecedented times. Once again, you rose to the challenge. For that, we thank you.
As the entire legal profession adapts to a new paradigm, we are embracing this moment to create new and innovative opportunities for the Firm and our people to thrive. We have been actively engaging with team members from all Offices and Departments, who have expressed a growing desire for professional development, reengagement with colleagues, and the sense of connection that comes only from being together. At the same time, we all have different considerations that shape our personal and professional lives. As we prepare to return to our offices, we do so with an understanding that a flexible working environment will be a key element in the post pandemic workplace.
Keeping Law School Accessible When Federal Loans Fall Short
As federal borrowing caps tighten financing options for law students, one organization is stepping in to negotiate the terms they can't secure alone.
With these considerations in mind, and to allow us to balance the need for connection and collaboration, as well as to allow you to take advantage of the professional development activities and events that we will be offering, beginning Monday, January 10, 2022, we recommend that all lawyers, client service support roles, paralegals and other timekeepers begin working from the office at least two days each week. Team and Department leaders will coordinate directly with the rest of the firm-wide departments on schedules that ensure full coverage. Local operations and IT support will continue with existing in-office service coverage. We recognize and understand that personal circumstances will vary, and anyone with questions or concerns should contact their leader.
Between now and January 10, Offices and Practice Groups will be organizing a variety of development and social activities for team members to begin getting reacquainted. Anyone who would like to work from the office or host team or client meetings during this time is able to do so, with confidence in the protection of our health and safety requirements. As a reminder, you must be fully vaccinated to come into the office or attend Firm events.1
These extraordinary times have fueled our collective optimism about the future. It is exciting to begin the process of connecting again. Whether you are a newer team member setting foot in the office for the first time, or a longtime team member returning to the office after many months, you are an important part of this next phase of our journey. We look forward to experiencing – together – what makes our Firm the special place that it is.
With our gratitude,
