On This Week's Episode Of Judicial Misconduct: Percocet Slurs?

To be clear, I don't know which exact drug the Honorable Odinet is blaming her racism on, but I know Benadryl doesn't cause this.

Uncertain judge

Like a what now?

The Marshall of Lafayette City, Louisiana, recently gave his thoughts on the behavior of a judge in the sanctity of her own home, stating:

“I’m sure that people of color will find it impossible to trust that they will be treated fairly and equally when they have to stand for judgment before Judge Odinet,” he said. “This type of language cannot be accepted or tolerated by anyone, especially those who serve as leaders in our city.

Language? It’s a judge after all? What, did she like, yell a few heated words after hearing our take on the F1 debacle? Judges are so mild mannered as a nature of their profession, it’s not like their personal lives can really get that out of hand. If that were the case, people would start questioning the levelheadedness of their bench decisions. Got to prevent any suggestion of impropriety, after all. Let’s use our own judgment and read what Mr. Marshall of Lafayette City was referring to. Better yet, here’s the video!

Oh. Yeah, that’s pretty bad. Who knew attempted robberies were such a good time! Not only are she and her son very comfortable in saying the word, hard R even, repeatedly, do you notice there’s like, no shock or hesitation from anyone involved? How casually she linked the N—– and a roach? The joy and giddiness in their voices? It’s like this is an everyday occurrence or something.

Unsurprisingly, the judge is calling for forgiveness and grace during this trying time. She also mentioned that she was given a sedative. Let’s bracket how very animated she is in the video and just consider this defense.  Many people know that alcohol and other drugs can have strange effects on our bodies. Smoking weed may distort your sense of time; alcohol can result in slurred speech. But I doubt the 1940s slurs that came from the Honorable Michelle Odinet’s mouth had anything to do with her intoxication. While I don’t know which drug other than racism she’s trying to pin the tail on, I know that when Rosanne Barr tried to pull this, Ambien responded, clarifying that “racism is not a known side effect of any of their drugs.” I hope that Ms. Odinet can name the drug she’s blaming for her word choice, I would love to interview them on their known side effects, listed or otherwise.

Of course, folks aren’t too happy with this and are pressing her to resign, along with giving additional attention to her prior rulings. Following the Rittenhouse phenomenon and Crystal Clanton’s career trajectory, this door closing may open up even more prestigious legal positions for her. Time will tell.
