Look, giving each of these announcements some kind of punny angle gets difficult, folks. There’s only so many ways to say a firm stepped up and matched the market-defining bonuses set out by Davis Polk, including a round of special bonuses on top of the base. Sure, you could pad out the article a little bit by noting that Vinson & Elkins ranks 59th in the most recent Am Law 100 and that it secured $782,352,000 in total revenue last year, but that won’t really get you more than a sentence.

It helps that the firm acknowledges that its past practice of awarding supplemental bonuses to particularly high earners will continue on top of the market-matching bonuses. A nice paragraph capped is available if a tipster generously offers some analysis, pointing out these supplemental bonuses historically work out to around 1.10x market for 2150 hours, 1.25x for 2300 hours and 1.35x for 2500+ hours.
