Assistant District Attorney Goes On Anti-Vax/Mask Screed... No Longer Assistant District Attorney

This is probably not who you want in charge of prosecutorial decisions.

gavel maskOh my, awful people are just everywhere these days, aren’t they? But the benefit of our online era is that there’s a record of some of folks’ worse impulses, and there can be some accountability.

Let’s have a look at what Shannon Stephens posted on social media. For context, Stephens got her J.D. in 2020 from St. John’s University School of Law and works as an assistant district attorney at the Queens District Attorney’s office. Anyway, onto her post:

Just thought I should recap the country current status for everyone in case you forgot:

-Covid only comes out sometimes, when Governor Huck a Fuck says so, then we all must wear paper on our faces while getting our 45th booster so we can still get covid

-you can only go into some stores and at certain times because depending on the workers and the day and their mood, you might be harassed over your piece of paper on your face or you might not

-if you’re liberal, you must automatically take up the liberal torch at your minimum wage job and follow people around to curb their freedoms

-if you yell BLM you’ll probably get away with looting the whole place and setting it on fire

-all crime is fine in NYC but if you don’t have a mask, well it’s probably the guillotine for you

-you will still get covid because that’s Führer Fauci’s goal, but get more boosters anyway because they won’t work but it doesn’t matter

-you must all hide in fear of a germ because government says so

-if government says it, it must be right. To hell with [cut off]

It is utterly unsurprising there’s uproar over Stephens’s post. There’s the anti-vax sentiment — with all the anti-science that demands; a distinct anti-government flair that’s pretty notable, you know, for a government lawyer; the problematic racial assumptions; and a take on well, law and order, that almost certainly impacts how she does her job at the district attorney’s office.

Oh, look, it seems that Queens DA Melinda Katz also has thoughts:

Boom. You have to love when life comes at an anti-vaxxer fast. As of this writing, Stephens’s LinkedIn profile still lists the the Queens DAs office as her current employer — a place she’s worked at for little more than a year. But because we live in a post-truth hellscape, I’m sure Stephens will wind up doubling her previous salary as a right-wing commentator.
