Cadence Counsel is working with Bluerock on an exclusive search for an experienced transactional Real Estate Counsel. Founded in 2002, Bluerock is a leading institutional alternative asset manager based in New York with regional offices across the United States. Reporting directly to Bluerock’s General Counsel, the successful candidate will assume primary responsibility on the legal side for all of Bluerock’s real estate transactions. The ideal candidate will have 6+ years of legal experience related to real estate acquisitions and financings, and will be a nimble team player adept at building strong, collaborative trust relationships at all levels of the business. Primary Responsibilities

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating transactional documentation in connection with the acquisition and disposition of real estate;
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating financing documentation in connection with both asset-level and corporate-level financings;
  • Collaborating with internal teams and outside counsel on structuring a variety of real estate transactions and joint ventures;
  • Coordinating with senior management to resolve issues and facilitate the timely closing of transactions;
  • Developing and improving internal processes in connection with the expansion of Bluerock’s portfolio across multiple asset classes;
  • Supporting various business groups including acquisitions, accounting, marketing and operations; and
  • Overseeing and managing junior team members as well as outside counsel.

Qualifications

  • Strong academic background including law degree from a top law school;
  • 6+ years of post-JD experience working on real estate acquisitions and related financings, ideally at both a leading Am Law 100 law firm and as in-house counsel in a real estate capacity;
  • Strong transactional real estate experience:
    • Extensive direct transactional experience across a broad range of real estate asset classes, with particular emphasis on residential and industrial;
    • Significant experience in connection with real estate financings, with particular emphasis on credit facilities and agency financings, and in the negotiation and drafting of complex joint venture agreements on behalf of capital partners;
    • Experience in the single family residential space (including negotiation of warehouse lines of credit), development deals (including construction financings), and/or the representation of sponsors of multifamily 1031 syndications would be beneficial but not a prerequisite;
  • Strong work ethic, highly motivated and proactive;
  • Personable and a team player with a desire to contribute to a collaborative work
    environment;
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to independently manage multiple workstreams;
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving and analytical skills;
  • Ability to work with all levels of management; and
  • Integrity and professionalism.

Location

Bluerock prefers candidates based out of the New York City metropolitan area but will consider remote work for the right candidate.
