Family Law Firm Rebranding After The Whole 'Embezzlement, Hitman, Insurance Plot Thing'

The latest in a wild, tragic story.

police line do not cross crime scene tapeAlex Murdaugh had a truly bizarre 2021.

The scion of a powerful South Carolina legal family, Murdaugh discovered his wife and son murdered in June. That case remains unsolved. Three months later, Murdaugh called authorities after getting shot in the head while changing a blown out tire. Then it came out that Murdaugh’s attacker might be a hitman hired by Murdaugh himself — though the hitman claims he never pulled the trigger. Then the family firm announced that Murdaugh had embezzled from his partners. Then he got arrested in connection with another death, specifically for taking money from the settlement intended for the family of his housekeeper who died in a fall at Murdaugh’s house in 2018. To add to the web, his murdered son faced boating under the influence charges related to the death of a woman in 2019.

Now the Daily News reports that the family firm, founded by Murdaugh’s grandfather in 1910, is shutting down… at least in its historic form.

At least seven lawyers at Peters Murdaugh Parker Eltzroth and Detrick (PMPED), including Murdaugh’s brother, Randolph IV, have filed paperwork with the South Carolina Secretary of State’s Office to register new firms, according to FITS News. All seven have filed with the same address as the PMPED offices, but it’s unclear how the new firms will function.

What’s left of the legacy firm will now go by The Parker Law Group, LLP.

Definitely want that “LL” in there after what they’ve been through. As they say, it stands for “Ladies Love Limited Liability.”
