I Know Lawyers Get A Bad Rap, But Can We Talk About Judges For A Second?

Maybe Judge Michelle Odinet gave her a sedative before to mellow her out.

Here at Above the Law, we like to give credit where credit is due. Judge Alexis G. Krot of Michigan’s 31st District has a talent for hating overgrown weeds and berating 72-year-old cancer survivors. In a rant that would make Gordon Ramsay blush, she took it upon herself to yell at and shame a man for not keeping his property tidy. I know that doesn’t sound outlandish — but it is — and you really need to see how she did it to do it justice.

I imagine myself a quick thinker when it comes to turning a phrase or making a punchline. But Dear God. When I first saw this, I was stuck looking at the screen bug-eyed for a few minutes in disbelief at the level of Karening bellowing from those judicial robes. There were more layers of disrespect than Shrek skin. Saying you’d jail a person who audibly has trouble breathing for not clipping a few plants if you could? Yelling at someone (I don’t know the judge’s age) at least 10 years your senior? Speaking in CAPS LOCK over a $100 fine after being given an apology? I know the law is supposed to be impartial and all, but I don’t know how to explain to you why you should care about other people. There is no way that her behavior is in line with whatever recommended judicial conduct that Ms. Krot swore to uphold. Is there a Yelp for judges? Does she drive for Uber in her spare time? I want to rate her 1/5 for as many things possible on behalf of Mr. Chowdhury. I bet even her green bean casserole is wack.

And for the folks who appreciate a little more context, Mr. Chowdhury’s son was supposed to tidy up the lot but was out of the country for a bit. Respect to him for  quickly accepting responsibility despite the circumstances. I hope that he, his father, and whatever bystanders happen to be on the Zoom call don’t have to deal with that awkward-ass scenario ever again. Do not act like that lady, people.
