Eriq Gardner leaving The Hollywood Reporter For Puck.

1280px-Aerial_Hollywood_SignIn the legal journalism world, few reporters have dominated a space like Eriq Gardner’s dominated entertainment law. From James Woods flipping out over social media to Lindsay Lohan suing over a video game cover, Gardner’s been on top of reporting the intersection of law and entertainment for years. In fact, “the intersection of Hollywood and law” used to be the tagline of his THR, Esq. site.

And for every fun and quirky story about whining celebrities, this intersection also hashes out some big ticket legal issues with antitrust, privacy, labor, and the super thorny issues of copyright.

After 15 years at The Hollywood Reporter, Gardner is moving and branching out. The veteran reporter now joins Puck, another outlet that puts a premium on intersections — or as it puts it “nexus,” since that’s a cooler vocab word — promising “the inside conversation at the nexus of Wall Street, Washington, Silicon Valley & Hollywood.”

As the tagline suggests, the move expands Gardner’s portfolio by, well, three more metonymic cities.

Gardner started on the legal industry beat in earnest in 2003, joining ALM as a reporter. In 2006, he joined up with The Hollywood Reporter where he’s worked with a variety of titles ever since.

Meanwhile, Puck continues to lure top talent from traditional media. The online publication already boasts Julia Ioffe, previously at GQ and The Atlantic, Peter Hamby from Vanity Fair and CNN, and Dylan Byers coming over from NBC News, among others. Indeed, Gardner isn’t even the first to join from THR, with former editor and entertainment lawyer Matthew Belloni already there.

We’ll be publishing a bit of an “exit interview” with Gardner soon so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, congratulations to Gardner on his new gig.
