Top 20 Biglaw Firm Announced Davis Polk Match Just Before Taking Controversial Stand On Russia
So, when will the Cravath match be coming?
Last week, this top law firm saw some trouble after it essentially banned its attorneys from commenting on the sanctions against Russia. It didn’t ban its attorneys from commenting on their salary increases, though, and now that a week has passed, associates are crowing about their new compensation.
The firm we’re speaking about is Norton Rose Fulbright, which brought home $1,877,933,000 gross revenue in 2020, ranking it at No. 13 on the most recent Am Law 100. As it turns out, the firm matched the Davis Polk scale mere hours before Cravath upped the ante on associate compensation. Associates tell us that the firm has yet to match the new prevailing salary scale from Cravath.
Here’s what the Davis Polk salary scale looks like at NRF:
As we noted when Norton Rose first announced its Milbank match, the firm will only be applying this new salary scale to some of its offices. Associates in the firm’s California, New York, Texas, and D.C. offices will be on the $215K to $396.5K pay scale, while those in Minneapolis and St. Louis will have “opportunities to earn into the national pay scale.”
Congratulations to (almost) everyone at the firm on their new salaries. For those in smaller markets, just remember, any raise is better than no raise! And hopefully, a Cravath match will be announced at the firm before long.
