These Are The Biglaw Firms Racking Up The Lateral Partners

Are you surprised by the firms on the list?

lot of money bagsThe Biglaw lateral market continues to be fire. And, as Above the Law has documented, that’s resulted in all manner of repercussions, like special bonusessigning bonusesretention bonusesraises, offers without interviews, and making senior associates lateral partners.

But while a lot of these trends are focused around associates that are potentially looking to leave their firm, the partner market has also seen a spike in activity. Remember the blockbuster move of 43 attorneys (including 18 partners) from Stroock & Stroock & Lavan to Paul Hastings? As historical as that move was, Paul Hastings is far from the only firm looking to bolster their partnership ranks.

Leopard Solutions has broken down exactly which Biglaw firms have added the most lateral partners. Over the last 12 months (April 12, 2021 – April 14, 2022), the five Biglaw firms busy hiring the most lateral partners are: Kirkland & Ellis with 114 lateral partners, Louis Brisbois with 98 lateral partners, Greenberg Traurig with 68 partners, Nelson Mullins with 66, and Goodwin at 58. Leopard’s lateral data is updated twice a week, so you can keep up as the lateral market evolves.

It’s no real surprise Kirkland is topping the list, the largest firm with the most revenue has plenty of cash to throw at new (to them) partners. But taking a look at the top five is interesting and gives a good sense of which firms are playing to win in the lateral merry-go-round.
