Recession Worries For Associates Working Remotely: Are Layoffs Ahead?

It's what everyone fears may happen to them. Let's hope it doesnt.

Job Losses layoffsThey aren’t going to let people go that are essential to running their business and are essential to servicing their clients—whether they are in the office or not. The question becomes: Is it harder to be essential when you are remote?

Michelle Fivel, a partner at Major Lindsey & Africa, commenting on the worries many associates may be experiencing as speculation about the “very, very high risk” of recession, per Goldman Sachs Senior Chairman Lloyd Blankfein, continue to make their way through the news. Recruiters, however, remain optimistic that associates working remotely in today’s hybrid environment will be spared from the layoffs that ravaged Biglaw firms during the Great Recession.
