Biglaw Firm Increases Associate Compensation For A Hot Salary Summer

Associates are thrilled.

money beachMemorial Day has come and gone, but summer’s official start date is still a few weeks away. That means Biglaw firms have until June 21 to get in shape — and by that, we mean increasing associate salaries. This trend started about six months ago, but some firms are just now making their compensation moves.

Which firm just announced that its associates would indeed be having a hot salary summer?

That would be Wiley Rein, the prominent DC firm known for its government and policy work. The firm brought in $239,650,000 gross revenue in 2021, putting it in 141st place in the latest Am Law 200 ranking. Sources tell us that the salary news — a Cravath match — was revealed during an associates meeting, and that associates later received memos personalized by class year. If you’ve forgotten what the Cravath salary scale looks like, here’s a reminder:

  • Class of 2021: $215,000
  • Class of 2020: $225,000
  • Class of 2019: $250,000
  • Class of 2018: $295,000
  • Class of 2017: $345,000
  • Class of 2016: $370,000
  • Class of 2015: $400,000
  • Class of 2014: $415,000

These salaries are effective at the firm as of June 1. Congratulations!

Remember everyone, we depend on your tips to stay on top of this stuff. So when your firm matches, please text us (646-820-8477) or email us (subject line: “[Firm Name] Matches Cravath”). Please include the memo if available. You can take a photo of the memo and send it via text or email if you don’t want to forward the original PDF or Word file.
