The Heart And Soul Of Vermont Law School

A look at an incredible legal career.

JAB130 SQUARE

On the latest episode of The Jabot, I speak with Shirley Jefferson, the newly appointed Vice President for Community Engagement and Government Affairs at Vermont Law and Graduate School (VLGS). Prior to her appointment, Shirley is a 1986 VLGS graduate who has been a longtime professor and administrator at VLGS. She was also the associate dean for student affairs and diversity and also became the special assistant to the admissions department and director of alumni affairs. In this episode, we talk about how the law is an effective tool to affect change in the world. Shirley, being the first person of color to be appointed as the VLGS’s VP, also shares the twists and turns of her career and how she’s able to pitch and convince people not just to go to law school, but to enter Vermont.

JAB130 QUOTE1

The Jabot podcast is an offshoot of the Above the Law brand focused on the challenges women, people of color, LGBTQIA, and other diverse populations face in the legal industry. Our name comes from none other than the Notorious Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the jabot (decorative collar) she wore when delivering dissents from the bench. It’s a reminder that even when we aren’t winning, we’re still a powerful force to be reckoned with.

Happy listening!
