When you’re a Biglaw partner, it’s not too often that your name becomes a topic of household conversation, much less the name behind a movement. Then again, it’s not too often that your client is Britney Spears.

Mathew Rosengart, the Greenberg Traurig partner who succeeded in freeing the pop star from more than a decade of conservatorship, clinched the title of Above the Law’s 2021 Lawyer of the Year for his zealous representation in the closely watched effort to #FreeBritney. He’s even been honored by the Hollywood Reporter as a “Power Lawyer” for the ongoing representation. Spears “simply adore[s]” the litigator and often gushes about how “wonderful” he is, but all good things — and good representations — must come to an end.

For nearly three years, Rosengart has remained by his client’s side, wrapping up the litigation and negotiating other deals for her, including but not limited to the book deal for her best-selling memoir The Woman in Me (affiliate link) as well as a prenuptial agreement (and later divorce proceedings). Now, the famed lawyer is “closing the chapter” on all Spears matters to focus on other clients. He offered the following statement to the Hollywood Reporter:

“It has been an honor to serve as Britney’s litigator, to work with her to achieve her goals in obtaining the court-ordered suspension of her former conservator, followed by restoring her fundamental rights and civil liberties, while continuing to protect her and more recently to extricate her from all outstanding litigation and the byzantine probate court proceedings. As I’ve always said, the credit goes to Britney.”

We wish the very best of luck to Mathew Rosengart, and we’re sure his loyal client feels the same way. We’ll certainly miss covering his heroic legal efforts related to all things Britney.
