Here at Above the Law, we frequently write about lawyers and law students who have put their legal careers on hold to compete on reality television shows. Imagine our surprise when we recently found out that yet another attorney had decided to make a foray into the wonderful world of reality TV. The latest lawyer turned reality competitor actually is an attorney chef — one who will appear on the new season of MasterChef: Generations.

So who is this attorney chef? Was she able to slice, dice, and julienne fry the competition?

Before we get all of the details about our attorney chef, let’s learn some more about this season of the show. From the MasterChef website:

Entering its 14th season with an all-new theme, MasterChef: Generations sees culinary titan Gordon Ramsay, acclaimed chef Aarón Sánchez and renowned restaurateur Joe Bastianich returning for the ultimate cook-off, as the top home cooks from four generations (Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X and Baby Boomers) battle it out. The home cooks will face a multitude of cooking trials, including a restaurant takeover challenge, a series of iconic Mystery Box challenges, cooking a meal at the Major League Soccer LAFC stadium, and the fan-favorite Tag Team event, where they must create a Michelin-star quality three-course meal! Only one home cook will win it all and take home the cash prize of $250,000 and the title of America’s MasterChef.

That being said, our would-be MasterChef is Kamay Lafalaise, who is representing the Millennials in the show. According to her LinkedIn profile, Lafalaise is a privacy and data security attorney with the Federal Trade Commission, where she’s worked since 2017. “I’ve put my job on hold, I’ve put my honeymoon on hold, because this opportunity means everything to me,” she said. “Getting an apron would absolutely change my life. It would confirm that I’m more than just a great attorney — I’m also an incredible cook.”

On her website, Lafalaise describes both her food and her career (“Seasoned Food. Seasoned Lawyer.”), and says that her “passion for cooking started at an early age.” Though she was raised in Florida, she grew up enjoying Haitian food cooked by her family, and went on to cook a Haitian signature dish for the judges during her first show appearance.

Lafalaise’s Haitian snapper with jasmine rice and peas, spicy tomato sauce, and pickled cabbage “pikliz” earned approval from two of the judges — Aarón Sánchez and Priya Krishna — with a firm no from Joe Bastianich, which brought her to tears. What would Gordon Ramsey say?

Congratulations to Kamay Lafalaise on her first victory on MasterChef: Generations! She received her third yes from Ramsey, earned her apron, and moved on to the next round of the competition.

If you’d like to keep up with her progress on the show, you can tune in every Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
