Boston attorney Gary Zerola has a long history of sexual assault allegations against him, but this time, he’s finally heading to prison. Last month, he was convicted of aggravated rape and burglary for a 2021 incident. This week, a judge sentenced him to 5-10 years in state prison.
According to prosecutors, Zerola and the woman he was dating at the time went out with the victim in the hours before the assault and all three went back to the woman’s apartment after the night out. However, Zerola returned to the victim’s apartment in the early hours of the next morning without her permission, and she woke up to Zerola sexually assaulting her.

The woman shared in her victim impact statement, “For months after the incident, I experienced nightly recurring nightmares reliving the assault. Even today, I still have nightmares of someone breaking into my apartment and trying to assault me.”
Zerola’s history of sexual assault allegations against him dates back to the 1990s. Indeed, in 2007, Zerola faced multiple allegations of sexual assault; he was acquitted in two of those cases and prosecutors declined to bring charges in a third case.
Zerola was named one of People Magazine’s most eligible bachelors in 2001. He was also rumored to be under consideration to star in the first season of ABC’s The Bachelor.
